Florida Native Plant Society Meeting
October 25, 2005

Fairchild Tropical Garden,
10901 Old Cutler Road
Refreshments at 7:15 p.m.,
meeting begins at 7:30.

David Hall, Ph.D., will speak on Forensic Botany, the analysis of plant material in both civil and criminal law enforcement.  Plant evidence can be used to destroy an alibi, help determine time since death, put a suspect at a crime scene, or tell where someone or something has been.  Examples of cases will be used to demonstrate how plants and parts of plants can be valuable tools used to help put suspects behind bars.

Dr. Hall owns and operates an environmental and forensic consulting firm in Gainesville.  He was previously employed as a Senior Scientist for KBN/Golder Associates from 1991-1997 following his role at the University of Florida as the Director of the Plant Identification and Information Services.  He is a recognized expert in forensics and plant identification.  He has provided botanical expertise for investigations and training by the FBI, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Florida Water Management Districts and Department of Environmental Protection and others.  He has given expert testimony in many civil and criminal cases as a witness for the prosecution and for the defense.  He also helped write wetland jurisdictional rules for Florida and the Federal wetland plant list and procedures.

Social and plant raffle follow the program.  The meeting is free and open to the public.  For more information call the Dade Chapter Florida Native Plant Society  at 305-255-6404 or see http://www.fnps.org/chapters/dade/.
